The Milford Co-Operative Preschool Learning Center Inc. has been educating preschoolers in the community for more than 50 years.  It was formed in 1954 by a group of parents who recognized the need for a non-profit, nonsectarian nursery school.  The Co-Op is a corporation administered by its members (parents) who work in cooperation to hire personnel, finance the operation of the school, and assist the teaching staff.

Classes are divided up into 2.5 hour mornings and afternoon sessions.   Morning classes are from 9am-11:30am and afternoon classes are from 12:30-3pm.  Children in the three-year program have class on Tuesdays and Thursdays, while the four-year olds attend school Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.

Numerous activities are planned by our staff throughout the school year both on site and off to foster the total learning experience.   Children participate in celebrating the traditions behind each holiday and view what life is like at a local firehouse, police station, or local library.  Families are also encouraged to celebrate their child's birthdays amongst their new friends.

In order for our teachers to place all their energy and effort on their preschoolers, the Milford Co-Op asks family members to volunteer in the classroom several times per calendar school year.    This enables parents to see first hand how their child is developing and it helps our staff to do what they are there to do, educate our children.

Teacher-Parent meetings are arranged twice a year to keep the lines of communication open on the personal development of each child.   General board meetings are scheduled to plan the agenda for each class (3's and 4's).  Families are encouraged to attend to give new ideas and suggestions for improvement.   In addition, class meetings (called a "tea") are scheduled for each class generally monthly.  This an informational session following the board meeting to share dates, plans, and celebrations, discuss classroom affairs, and share items of interest.

Returning families are offered first opportunity to choose what class they would like to register their child in.   Once registration fills for a particular class, a wait list is generated and a lottery is held.  The lottery determines the order in which individuals on the wait list will be admitted to their class of choice.   This system was designed to give everyone a fair opportunity for admittance.
